What's so great about microneedling?

Well, it's a good question, but let's start with a few more.......

Q WHO IS IT FOR?

A Pretty much everyone. With a few medical exceptions, it's one of a handful of advanced skin treatments that can be performed safely on all ages, all skin types and all skin colours.

Q WHAT DOES IT DO?

A Tackles a wide range of skin concerns from acne to scarring, stretch marks, loss of skin tone, lines and wrinkles, pigmentation (sometimes known as sun spots) redness and uneven skin tone, and boosts collagen and elastin production. Results can be seen quickly, with most people noticing an improvement in skin tone around 3 weeks after their first treatment.

Q HOW DOES IT WORK?

A The micro needling pen we use has a cartridge containing tiny sterile needles which puncture the skin at safe levels to produce an inflammatory response. This isn't dangerous - it's just enough of a response to start a chain of events within the skin that leads to wound healing, followed by repairing of the skin. It's during this repair phase that collagen and elastin is produced. Our microneedling pen of choice is the EPN Pen. Watch the video to see why we love it.

Q WHAT DOES ELECTROPORATION MEAN?

A The EPN pen has an added bonus - it's called electroporation - it simply means that during your treatment we can switch the electroporation mode on. This helps to deliver our active serums containing hyaluronic acid, vitamins, peptides and natural growth factors directly into your skin cells. Electroporation works by using a tiny electrical charge to temporarily disrupt the skin cell membranes, making them more porous, to deliver more of the actives in our serums directly to where they are needed for collagen stimulation and skin improvement. The results? Better skin, faster.

Q WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?

A Completely painless. That's because we apply a topical anaesthetic/numbing cream before your treatment, to make sure it's a comfortable experience.

Q IS THERE ANY BLEEDING INVOLVED?

A No, not any more! In the early days of microneedling, when I did my first training course back in 2009, we were taught that the skin had to bleed in order to achieve the collagen production and skin rejuvenation we were aiming for. This meant using microneedling devices with longer needles, typically around 1mm, and yes, there was bleeding! The good news is that clinical research and further study of the body's response to microneedling shows that making the skin bleed is not necessary in order to produce great results. By aiming for the epidermal junction (where the upper layers and lower layers of the skin meet and interact) we gain the best results without excessive, deep penetration with microneedles.

Q WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE AFTERWARDS?

A Your skin will be a little red immediately after your treatment. It can also feel a little like the soreness you experience after a mild sunburn. We use our Dermalux LED light therapy canopy immediately after your treatment. This helps to reduce the redness, and calms your skin, leaving it less sensitive.

Q ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

A Apart from the redness, you may get some slight swelling, especially if we have treated your eye area. This doesn't happen in every case, and if it does, it's very temporary and usually settles within 24-48 hours.

Q WHAT CAN AND CAN'T I DO AFTER THE TREATMENT

A Although we describe microneedling as a non invasive treatment, there are still some things to be mindful of following your treatment. You will be given an aftercare information sheet to take away, which will remind you of the things you should and shouldn't do. These are the main things to be aware of:

*No direct sun exposure for 4 weeks and USE AN SPF 50 EVERY DAY

*No use of Retinol or Vitamin C serums for 48 hours

*No use of acids/AHA's for 7 days

*No alcohol for 48 hours - keep hydrated! Alcohol can also cause swelling and bruising

*No hot baths, sauna, steam, or waxing in the treated area/s for 3 days - waxing can resume after 7 days

*No Laser, skin peels, fillers or Botox for 2 weeks

Q HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

A Generally a course of 3 treatments are recommended for skin improvement and boosting radiance, usually repeated every month. If you're wanting to tackle specific skin issues such as deeper lines, loose skin, sun damage or scars, a course of up to 6 treatments may be required. A full skin analysis and consultation before you start treatment is carried out by our practitioners so that the correct treatment plan can be put in place for you.

Q HOW CAN I FIND OUT IF IT'S RIGHT FOR ME?
